Through the fence

Glimmers no longer hop into fenced fields: they claw at the fence until a piece breaks, and in the morning a builder mends the gap.

A few days ago I found glimmers standing inside fenced fields, and the fence is supposed to keep them out. When I looked into it, their way finding never looked at fences at all. A fence only stopped people.

Now it stops glimmers too, and they have to do something about it. A glimmer that wants the wheat behind a fence, and has no other way in, walks up to the fence and claws at it, once a second. A small scout needs eight hits to break a piece; the bigger kinds will need fewer, down to a single blow from the biggest. The piece falls apart into splinters, the gap is open to anyone, and the glimmers go in. A gate breaks the same way.

Night at the camp: a glimmer claws through the field's fence, and in the morning a builder mends it.

The town mends it on its own. The broken piece turns into a blue blueprint straight away, haulers bring the two wood a new piece costs, and a builder raises it again, the same as any other site. Once it stands, it blocks again.

Morning: the blueprint piece in the gap, the builder next to it.

Not every fence can break yet. The fences round the guard post’s yard and the graveyard are only part of those buildings’ models, not real fences the glimmers walk into, so for now they stay whole.
